Craft breweries are gaining popularity across America, and are especially popular in Colorado. Craft breweries provide a unique “local” feel in addition to distinctive and delicious brews. Recently, USA TODAY 10Best released their list of the top 10 Best New Breweries and Greeley’s WeldWerks Brewing Company snagged the first place spot. This category included exclusively breweries that were chosen by a team of beer experts and those that had opened in the past three years. Winners were chosen after four weeks of daily voting from a community who clearly loves WeldWerks.
Located in downtown Greeley, WeldWerks Brewing Company is locally owned and operated and has had incredible success in its first year. Neil Fisher, WeldWerk’s owner and head brewer, opened the brewery after five years of home brewing. In those five years, Fisher won six medals in brewing competitions giving him the push he needed to take his recipes to the next level. With the added confidence from his competition wins, Fisher, along with partners Colin Jones and Kristen Allen, devised a business plan and began the search for investors. After successful fundraising and a helpful connection through his wife, Fisher was able to take out a lease on a 6,000 square foot building in downtown Greeley. The former Kia dealership was transformed into what is now WeldWerks Brewing Company’s comfortably rustic and industrial themed brewery and tasting room. The building was bought with the idea that they would enjoy a successful future and have the room they would need to grow. Their plans for WeldWerks include more than brewing great handcrafted beer; it also is dedicated to the Greeley community where anyone can feel welcome.
Although the building is designed to host a variety of people, Neil Fisher’s incredible recipes and the distinctive beers are what started it all. From the taproom, guests can enjoy an impressive view of the 15-barrel brewhouse and their brewing process. In the taproom, guests will find a great selection of brews on tap, along with some new barrel-aged beers, all made with the best ingredients available.
Among the most popular brews are their award-winning Hefeweizen, Raspberry Hefe, Coffee Stout, and IPA. Also popular are their Cherry Gose, Juicy Bits, Mexican Achromatic, and Medianoche with its variations (Coconut, Coffee, Vanilla, and Coffee Maple). The taproom continually changes out what it offers and because of popularity are continually selling out of some of the unique brews. If you can’t decide what to have, try a flight and get a little of everything.
Barrel-aged brews are not always available and growlers of other specialty brews have a tendency to go quick so make sure to check their Facebook page for more information about what is currently being offered. Their beers are also available at various restaurants across Northern Colorado for those who do not live in Greeley. For a full list of where to find their beer, check out their website.
The taproom is open afternoons and evenings 7 days a week with weekly specials every night. Guests are welcomed to bring food or check out their local delivery partners who offer discounted food when ordered from the taproom. With the combination of a comfortable welcoming environment and deliciously original brews, it’s no wonder WeldWerks Brewing Company was voted the Best New Brewery in the country.
